District 10 Update: September 26, 2024

You may have received a letter from my office about unclaimed funds recently. If you did receive that letter, please make sure to follow the instructions to claim your funds from the New York State Comptroller's office. Even if you didn't get a letter, you can still visit their website to see if there are unclaimed funds waiting for you or your loved ones and claim them.  Also this week I joined colleagues at the grand opening of the New Rochelle food scrap recycling program. New Rochelle now has 2 drop off locations for food scraps, one at the Pinebrook tennis courts at the bottom of Albert Leonard Drive, and the other at D'Onofrio Park. Eastchester residents can drop off their food scraps at the bottom of Farella Way , and Tuckahoe residents can use the recycling center at DPW at 15 Marbledale Road.  Recycling food scraps is an easy yet effective way to help the environment - it reduces the amount of incinerated and landfill garbage which ultimate...

District 10 Update: September 20, 2024

As summer winds down and the kids head back to school, the Board is gearing up for a busy 4th quarter. Budget season is nearly upon us, and we will soon dive into the critical task of shaping the county's financial future. In addition to this, I am continuing to advance my legislation, along with other initiatives in IT and cybersecurity, as well as addressing the various needs of our community. My commitment to promoting listening, empathy, and compassion—rather than hate and prejudice—remains as strong as ever. Ultimately, I am dedicated to ensuring that Westchester County continues to be a great place to live, work, and raise a family. For more news and updates on upcoming events, please see my weekly update below. Sincerely, Judah Holstein Legislator, 10th District Westchester Watch: Legislative Wins for Community Safety and Well-Being On Monday night, the Westchester County Board of Legislators conve...

District 10 Update: September 13, 2024

Dear Friends and Neighbors,  This week, I attended the NYSAC conference, where my colleague Ben Boykin was installed as president. One session, "Conflict to Conversation: Must Disagreement Be Disagreeable?" left a lasting impression on me. The speaker made a powerful point: "There is no freedom of speech without a concurrent need to listen." As a country, we pride ourselves on free expression, but true progress begins when we listen. If no one is listening, our words lose value, and we go unheard and unresolved. Upon returning, I was deeply moved by the story of a front-line survivor from the October 7 tragedy, whose experience of trying to save others while fearing for her own life reminded me in some ways of the countless stories of heroism from 9/11. As I then commemorated 9/11 in Eastchester, New Rochelle, and at the Kensico Dam, I realized that our younge...

District 10 Update: September 5, 2024

Dear Friends and Neighbors,  While on vacation, I watched friends and family share photos and stories as they proudly and excitedly sent their children off to their first day of school, only to be stirred and heartbroken by the tragic and horrible school shooting in Winder, Georgia. I closely followed the news about the rescue of Qaid Farhan Alkadi , an Israeli Bedouin, which brought a glimmer of relief and hope for all of the remaining Hamas hostages in Gaza. But that hope was quickly shattered by the recovery of six Jewish Israeli hostages , including American citizen Hersh Goldberg-Polin, who served as an icon of hope in the darkness. The recent execution of these hostages by their Hamas captors is a stark reminder of the ongoing threat posed by terrorism -- not only to Israel, but to peace around the world, and even here at home. I'm grateful to our County Executive and other local officials for honoring Hersh by ordering their flags be flown at hal...
