Dear Friends and Neighbors, 

Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins signed legislation that solidifies the County's commitment to challenging Con Edison's proposed utility rate increases. This action follows a unanimous, bipartisan vote by the Westchester County Board of Legislators to join the major rate case in New York State. 

I join with my colleagues to take a stand against Con Edison's unfair rate hikes by challenging these excessive increases because our residents shouldn't have to foot the bill for a company already making record profits.

I've heard from so many of you, families, seniors, and business owners, who are outraged by these skyrocketing costs. You deserve better. ConEd's rates are already substantially higher than those charged by other New York suppliers such as National Grid, and yet they continue to push for increases while raking in billions. While this lawsuit is an attempt to stop a rate hike, what we really need to see is real rate reductions.

If you are seeing abnormally high bills and you are subscribed to a third party vendor, you should compare their rates and determine if you want to change your provider. For example, if you have Sustainable Westchester, you can change your supplier here.

Westchester is making it clear that we won't stand by while our communities are overburdened with unjustified costs. I'll keep fighting to hold ConEd accountable and push for the lower rates that our residents deserve. Con Edison Proposed Rate Increases: Your Voice Matters

The NYS Public Service Commission (NYSPSC) is reviewing Con Edison's proposed price hikes, which, if approved, will increase residential customers' bills by an average of 11.4% for electricity and 13.3% for gas by 2026. The NYPSC is now accepting public comments. Your input about these proposed electric and gas delivery price hikes is critical and will be considered by the NYPSC before making any final decisions.

You can ensure your voice is heard via virtual public hearings on Tuesday, April 8 and Wednesday, April 9 at 1:00 and 5:30 p.m. on both dates. Those who want to speak at a hearing must register by April 7 (for April 8 hearings) or April 8 (for April 9 hearings) by visiting https://dps.ny.gov/calendar or calling 1-800-342-3330. Anyone unable to attend the hearings can submit written comments on the matter between now and November 21, 2025 by visiting www.dps.ny.gov, searching for case "25-E-0072" or "25-G-0073" and clicking "Post Comments". You can also send comments through the mail to Hon. Michelle L. Phillips, Secretary, Public Service Commission, Three Empire State Plaza, Albany, NY 12223-1350 or over the phone by calling the Opinion Line at 1-800-335-2120. BOL Celebrates Irish-American Heritage Month

The Westchester County Board of Legislators celebrated Irish-American Heritage Month on Monday night with a special ceremony honoring two exceptional community leaders:

  • Declan Farrell, community advocate, Co-Chair of the White Plains St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee, and owner of Dunne's Pub
  • Frank O'Keefe, a 45-year resident of Westchester County dedicated to serving the Irish-American community through various organizations.

Westchester County Parks to Hold Seasonal Job Fair

Learn about, apply to and interview for seasonal jobs at our parks, Saturday, March 15 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at our job fair at the Westchester County Center!

Attendees can apply on the spot to the numerous positions in the Westchester County Parks Department including Nature Camp Counselors, Lifeguards, and Recreation Attendants. Locations span the entire Westchester County Parks system at our 50+ facilities. Job descriptions are available here.

The Westchester County Center is located at 198 Central Avenue, White Plains, NY 10606. Parking will be free for those attending the job fair. The job fair will be held in the Little Theater.

Important Changes to New York's CDPAP Program:
Transition to Public Partnership, LLC (PPL)

The Consumer Directed Personal Assistance Program (CDPAP) is a New York State Medicaid program that allows eligible Medicaid members to choose and hire their own caregivers, including friends or family members. While CDPAP eligibility and services remain unchanged, New York State is transitioning to a new financial intermediary. If you are a CDPAP recipient or caregiver, you must transition to Public Partnership, LLC (PPL) by March 28, 2025 to continue receiving services.

Making the switch is simple and can be done in one of the following ways:

  • By phone: Call the customer support center at 1-833-247-5346
  • Online: Visit https://pplfirst.com/CDPAP
  • Through community partners: Westchester-based CDPAP Facilitators, including Community Care Home Health Services, Community Home Health Care, BestCare, Concepts of Independence, and People Care, can assist with the transition.

Spring Teen Zone

Eastchester Recreation will be hosting a variety of activities in April and May. Registration opens Tuesday, March 18th at 9am here.

Dear Friends and Neighbors,  This week, I attended the NYSAC conference, where my colleague Ben Boykin was installed as president. One session, "Conflict to Conversation: Must Disagreement Be Disagreeable?" left a lasting impression on me. The speaker made a powerful point: "There is no freedom of speech without a concurrent need to listen." As a country, we pride ourselves on free expression, but true progress begins when we listen. If no one is listening, our words lose value, and we go unheard and unresolved. District 10 Update: August 29, 2024

Dear Friends and Neighbors,  This past weekend, I brought my youngest son back to SUNY Stony Brook University to begin his sophomore year. Like many parents, I felt the bittersweet mix of love and pride as he left the nest to venture into adulthood. This year, however, I found myself reflecting on the end of his last semester. While our son was fortunate enough not to be significantly impacted by the small but loud protests that took place at his school, some parents were not so lucky, as college students from District 10, Westchester County, and around the world were harassed, intimidated, or blocked from accessing their dorms, classrooms, and other school buildings due to disruptive actions by protestors. I deeply cherish our Constitutional First Amendment and the rights it provides for people to peacefully assemble and protest. District 10 Update: September 5, 2024

Dear Friends and Neighbors,  While on vacation, I watched friends and family share photos and stories as they proudly and excitedly sent their children off to their first day of school, only to be stirred and heartbroken by the tragic and horrible school shooting in Winder, Georgia. I closely followed the news about the rescue of Qaid Farhan Alkadi , an Israeli Bedouin, which brought a glimmer of relief and hope for all of the remaining Hamas hostages in Gaza. But that hope was quickly shattered by the recovery of six Jewish Israeli hostages , including American citizen Hersh Goldberg-Polin, who served as an icon of hope in the darkness. The recent execution of these hostages by their Hamas captors is a stark reminder of the ongoing threat posed by terrorism -- not only to Israel, but to peace around the world, and even here at home.
