District 10 Update: May 2, 2025

This past week offered powerful reminders of the values we hold as a community: service, remembrance, and hope. I spoke with the League of Women Voters about the importance of using our voice and our vote, joined the UJA/WJC Legislative Breakfast, and celebrated the talent of New Rochelle's young musicians performing with SongCatchers.

In Eastchester, we honored the memory of Officer Michael Frey, who was killed in the line of duty 28 years ago. I also marked Workers' Memorial Day and heard a moving presentation from "George Washington" through the Eastchester Historical Society. We celebrated Earth Day with park cleanups in New Rochelle and stood with the Jewish community in observing Yom HaZikaron, Israel's Memorial Day. It is a somber day of reflection that transitions each year into Yom HaAtzmaut, a celebration of Israel's independence and resilience.

I also want to acknowledge the American Legion Auxiliary at the Leroy Gregory Post in Eastchester for collecting goods to support families of veterans and active-duty service members.

As we move into the warmer months, I'm looking forward to more opportunities to connect, reflect, and work together to strengthen our community.

District 10 Update: March 28, 2025

Government should make people's lives better and easier, not create barriers when they need help. That's why the Social Security Administration's decision to reject Westchester County's offer of county-owned space for the Hearing Office in White Plains is so disappointing. With White Plains set to close and the Newburgh office already shut down, there will soon be no Social Security Hearing Offices left in the Hudson Valley. People who need to resolve important issues -- like disability claims or benefit appeals -- will have to travel long distances just to be heard. Westchester County offered a simple, local solution, but instead of working with us, the federal government chose to walk away. I started the week joining community leaders and advoc...

District 10 Update: September 13, 2024

Dear Friends and Neighbors,  This week, I attended the NYSAC conference, where my colleague Ben Boykin was installed as president. One session, "Conflict to Conversation: Must Disagreement Be Disagreeable?" left a lasting impression on me. The speaker made a powerful point: "There is no freedom of speech without a concurrent need to listen." As a country, we pride ourselves on free expression, but true progress begins when we listen. If no one is listening, our words lose value, and we go unheard and unresolved. Upon returning, I was deeply moved by the story of a front-line survivor from the October 7 tragedy, whose experience of trying to save others while fearing for her own life reminded me in some ways of the countless stories of heroism from 9/11. As I then commemorated 9/11 in Eastchester, New Rochelle, and at the Kensico Dam, I realized that our younge...

District 10 Update: April 25, 2025

This past week was a vivid reminder of how closely joy and sorrow can live side by side. The final days of Passover and the Easter holiday brought a chance to step back and spend meaningful time with family. Those moments are a true gift. Shortly after returning home, I learned of the passing of two beloved family members. Each lived a meaningful life, and while I'm grateful for the time we shared, the sadness runs deep. I returned from one of the funerals to join my colleagues on the Board and hear County Executive Ken Jenkins deliver his first State of the County address. His message offered a thoughtful vision for Westchester's future, grounded in shared purpose and collaboration. I wrapped up the week observing Yom Hashoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day. I listened to survivor Arlette Baker share her story, a moving reminder of the resilience of the human spirit and the importanc...
