District 10 Update: October 16, 2025

This week the world watches what feels like a miracle after two years of anguish, as progress toward peace was made in the Middle East. For many of us, the relief was fleeting. Feelings of instability returned as we saw how fragile that progress remains, along with conflicts that continue elsewhere, messages of hate from loud voices in our politics, all against the backdrop of our own federal government shutdown which has and will impact so many.

Especially in these difficult times, we need to work together and support one another. We cannot afford to alienate allies over single issue disputes, or attack each other with rumors or purity tests. I have had some personal experience with this and the outcome is almost always that we weaken our own coalition.
Now more than ever, we need to raise each other up and not tear each other apart. If we want to strengthen our party and our democracy, we have to start by assuming good faith, seeking truth, and standing together.

Action Required: NYSEG and Con Ed Rate Increase Comment Deadlines

Below are important deadlines for both Con Edison and NYSEG ratepayers wishing to raise their voices against the requested rate increases.

NYSEG Rate Case – Virtual Hearing and Written Comment Deadline:

As mentioned previously, NYSEG has not scheduled any in-person public hearings in Westchester (the nearest will be in Binghamton). However, they are holding virtual hearings on October 21 at 1 PM and 6 PM, and we strongly encourage everyone to participate. Registration is required by Friday, October 17—you can register here.

You can also submit written comments until November 17 by completing the comment form here. It is critical that the Public Service Commission hears from as many residents as possible.

Con Ed Rate Case – Written Comment Deadline:

While the public hearings for the Con Ed rate case have concluded, there is still time to share your feedback. Written comments must be submitted by November 21, 2025. You can submit comments for the electric case here and for the gas case here. Simply click the "Post Comment" link on the right side of the page.
Join Us for the Next Board of Legislators Meeting—Monday, October 20

Please join us on Monday, October 20, 2025, at 7 PM for our annual Italian American Heritage Month celebration, held just before the regular Board meeting. The event will be streamed live from the Board of Legislators Chamber. We will celebrate the achievements of two exceptional honorees: Michael N. Romita, champion for Westchester's economy, community development, and environmental sustainability, and Paula Miritello, founder of My Brother Vinny, a nonprofit that helps formerly homeless veterans furnish their homes.

During the regular meeting, the Board will hold four public hearings to consider:
  • Hudson River Museum/JFK Project–Amending the agreement with Yonkers regarding the museum component of the JFK Project
  • Sewer District Changes–Removing three properties from the Saw Mill Valley Sanitary Sewer Districts:
    • 2 Charles Court, Mount Pleasant
    • 634 Chappaqua Road, Mount Pleasant

Wishing You a Bright and Joyful Diwali

Lit clay oil lamp against a purple background with the messageDiwali, or Deepawali, the Festival of Lights, is a time to celebrate new beginnings, hope, and the triumph of light over darkness. Observed by many South Asian communities and embraced around the world, it is a reminder of the power of positivity and renewal.

On behalf of the Westchester County Board of Legislators, we extend our warmest wishes to all who celebrate. May the light of Diwali bring happiness, prosperity, and peace to you and your loved ones.

District 10 Update: August 7, 2025

Please take a moment to submit your comments to the New York State Public Service Commission (PSC) and ask them to reject Con Edison's proposed electric and gas rate increases. Share how these hikes would affect you and your family. Submit your comments using the links below: Electric rate case – Case 25-E-0072 Gas rate case – Case 25-G-0073 The Westchester County Board of Legislators continues to hear from residents about the impact of Con Edison's repeated and aggressive rate hikes. Last week, the Board held a public session in Rye Brook to hear directly from the community, and next week we will announce our next hearing in Mount Kisco. While we are committed to raising these concerns locally, the final decision rests with the PSC. So far, just over 6,000 comments have been submitted on the electric case and about 4,500 on the gas case. Most appear to come from New York City. Westche...

District 10 Update: June 26, 2025

Click here to view this email in your browser  Last week, I joined a prayer vigil against hate in New Rochelle. Even in a city as diverse as New Rochelle moments like this remind us how much listening, respect, and mutual understanding still matter. We do not need to agree on everything, but we do need to care about how our words and actions affect those around us. Different communities carry different lived experiences. As an example, some turn to law enforcement any time they feel uneasy. Others hesitate because of long histories of profiling, discrimination, or being treated as outsiders. Language matters too. Words and slogans can carry pain, even if not intended. "The South will rise again" is recognized as a symbol of white supremacy and racial terror. Simila...

District 10 Update: May 2, 2025

This past week offered powerful reminders of the values we hold as a community: service, remembrance, and hope. I spoke with the League of Women Voters about the importance of using our voice and our vote, joined the UJA/WJC Legislative Breakfast, and celebrated the talent of New Rochelle's young musicians performing with SongCatchers. In Eastchester, we honored the memory of Officer Michael Frey, who was killed in the line of duty 28 years ago. I also marked Workers' Memorial Day and heard a moving presentation from "George Washington" through the Eastchester Historical Society. We celebrated Earth Day with park cleanups in New Rochelle and stood with the Jewish community in observing Yom HaZikaron, Israel's Memorial Day. It is a somber day of reflection that transitions each year into Yom HaAtzmaut, ...
