District 10 Update: October 9, 2025

As the world watches the situation in the Middle East with hope, I had the opportunity to join the community at the JCC for a screening of Montana Tucker's powerful and moving documentary, "The Children of October 7". While I also attended several commemorations marking that solemn day, I found this one to be particularly meaningful and I am grateful to have been able to join.

I also joined several colleagues for a conversation hosted by the OCA-WHV, advocates for the AAPI community in Westchester and the Hudson Valley. One important topic that came up was the continued challenge of rising Con Ed rates, and the ongoing Con Ed Rate Case, which Westchester County and multiple municipalities have joined. I urged those present to share their opposition with the Public Service Commission on its public comments web site. When I last wrote about this in August, there were only 6,100 comments on record, and most were from people in New York City. Con Ed serves over 3 million electric customers, and over 1 million gas customers, so while I am pleased to see the number of comments has now reached almost 9,900, it's still way too low! If you haven't done so already, please take a moment to tell the PSC you oppose a rate increase at this time. It's a public comment site, so you'll need to include your name, address, and email address. More importantly, share the link with at least five friends, because while elected officials do our best to advocate for you, the most powerful advocates are you.

Submit your comments using the links below: Finally, I want to share a resource for anyone in our community struggling to keep up with bills or inflation, whether related to Con Ed expenses or not. The Hebrew Free Loan Society presented their interest-free loan program to our Economic Development Committee this week. They have a variety of programs specifically to help people in need pay for health-care costs, education, fertility, or any unexpected expense. They also partner with Debt Consolidators to help you take high-interest debt and consolidate it into a single interest-free payment plan. You'll still need to repay the principal, but the interest savings alone will be immense. At a time when bills are high, furloughs are happening, and expenses are piling up, and people are stretched thin, this program offers real relief to anyone who meets the criteria, regardless of race, creed, or religion. I encourage you to reach out, see if you qualify, and apply.

Board Passes "Gio's Law" to Save More Lives in Allergy Emergencies

Families across Westchester will soon have greater peace of mind knowing that first responders are prepared to act quickly during severe allergic reactions. The Board of Legislators has passed the Giovanni Cipriano Act, requiring the County's Commissioner of Public Safety to take steps to equip all eligible County police officers with EpiPens and training to respond to life-threatening cases of anaphylaxis.

Named for a 14-year-old New Yorker who tragically died after unknowingly consuming peanuts, "Gio's Law" is designed to save lives when every second counts. Learn more about Westchester becoming the just second county in the state to pass "Gio's Law."

District 10 Update: August 7, 2025

Please take a moment to submit your comments to the New York State Public Service Commission (PSC) and ask them to reject Con Edison's proposed electric and gas rate increases. Share how these hikes would affect you and your family. Submit your comments using the links below: Electric rate case – Case 25-E-0072 Gas rate case – Case 25-G-0073 The Westchester County Board of Legislators continues to hear from residents about the impact of Con Edison's repeated and aggressive rate hikes. Last week, the Board held a public session in Rye Brook to hear directly from the community, and next week we will announce our next hearing in Mount Kisco. While we are committed to raising these concerns locally, the final decision rests with the PSC. So far, just over 6,000 comments have been submitted on the electric case and about 4,500 on the gas case. Most appear to come from New York City. Westche...

District 10 Update: June 26, 2025

Click here to view this email in your browser  Last week, I joined a prayer vigil against hate in New Rochelle. Even in a city as diverse as New Rochelle moments like this remind us how much listening, respect, and mutual understanding still matter. We do not need to agree on everything, but we do need to care about how our words and actions affect those around us. Different communities carry different lived experiences. As an example, some turn to law enforcement any time they feel uneasy. Others hesitate because of long histories of profiling, discrimination, or being treated as outsiders. Language matters too. Words and slogans can carry pain, even if not intended. "The South will rise again" is recognized as a symbol of white supremacy and racial terror. Simila...

District 10 Update: March 28, 2025

Government should make people's lives better and easier, not create barriers when they need help. That's why the Social Security Administration's decision to reject Westchester County's offer of county-owned space for the Hearing Office in White Plains is so disappointing. With White Plains set to close and the Newburgh office already shut down, there will soon be no Social Security Hearing Offices left in the Hudson Valley. People who need to resolve important issues -- like disability claims or benefit appeals -- will have to travel long distances just to be heard. Westchester County offered a simple, local solution, but instead of working with us, the federal government chose to walk away. I started the week joining community leaders and advoc...
