District 10 Update: October 31, 2025

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

Much of the focus this week has been on funding concerns, especially at the federal level. At the NonProfit Westchester Legislators Breakfast, my colleagues and I heard clear concern from the nonprofit community. Westchester relies on these partners to deliver vital services, and as public funding becomes uncertain, If you can, I encourage you to support local nonprofits whose mission aligns with your priorities. If you need help finding one, visit NonProfit Westchester for a list of their members.

I also stood with elected officials to call attention to another critical funding issue: the USDA's refusal to release contingency funds for SNAP. With grocery costs soaring and unemployment rising, this is not the time to withhold food from families in need. Those contingency funds exist for emergencies, and there is precedent to preserve SNAP, just as there is precedent to keep WIC, DHS (and ICE), air traffic control, Social Security, and many other critical programs operating during a shutdown. SNAP should not be a bargaining chip in negotiations over a continuing resolution to defund healthcare. We should expect leaders to show up to work and come together and reach an agreement. President Trump himself once made that very case. If we can fund jets and ballrooms and salaries for electeds who haven't been in session for over a month, we can feed families.

Resources for Residents Facing Food Insecurity Due to SNAP Uncertainty

Federal SNAP benefits are set to stop on November 1, with no clear end in sight. Yesterday, the County stepped in to allocate $50,000 in emergency funding from the Department of Social Services (DSS) budget to Feeding Westchester, one of the County's largest food banks. These funds will help provide food to families, seniors, and disabled residents impacted by the loss of assistance and those suffering from ongoing food insecurity.

District 10 Update: August 7, 2025

Please take a moment to submit your comments to the New York State Public Service Commission (PSC) and ask them to reject Con Edison's proposed electric and gas rate increases. Share how these hikes would affect you and your family. Submit your comments using the links below: Electric rate case – Case 25-E-0072 Gas rate case – Case 25-G-0073 The Westchester County Board of Legislators continues to hear from residents about the impact of Con Edison's repeated and aggressive rate hikes. Last week, the Board held a public session in Rye Brook to hear directly from the community, and next week we will announce our next hearing in Mount Kisco. While we are committed to raising these concerns locally, the final decision rests with the PSC. So far, just over 6,000 comments have been submitted on the electric case and about 4,500 on the gas case. Most appear to come from New York City. Westche...

District 10 Update: June 26, 2025

Click here to view this email in your browser  Last week, I joined a prayer vigil against hate in New Rochelle. Even in a city as diverse as New Rochelle moments like this remind us how much listening, respect, and mutual understanding still matter. We do not need to agree on everything, but we do need to care about how our words and actions affect those around us. Different communities carry different lived experiences. As an example, some turn to law enforcement any time they feel uneasy. Others hesitate because of long histories of profiling, discrimination, or being treated as outsiders. Language matters too. Words and slogans can carry pain, even if not intended. "The South will rise again" is recognized as a symbol of white supremacy and racial terror. Simila...

District 10 Update: May 2, 2025

This past week offered powerful reminders of the values we hold as a community: service, remembrance, and hope. I spoke with the League of Women Voters about the importance of using our voice and our vote, joined the UJA/WJC Legislative Breakfast, and celebrated the talent of New Rochelle's young musicians performing with SongCatchers. In Eastchester, we honored the memory of Officer Michael Frey, who was killed in the line of duty 28 years ago. I also marked Workers' Memorial Day and heard a moving presentation from "George Washington" through the Eastchester Historical Society. We celebrated Earth Day with park cleanups in New Rochelle and stood with the Jewish community in observing Yom HaZikaron, Israel's Memorial Day. It is a somber day of reflection that transitions each year into Yom HaAtzmaut, ...
