District 10 Update: March 6, 2026

This week Jews around the world celebrated Purim, the story of Jews in Persia who were miraculously saved from Persian Prime Minister Haman by Mordechai and Queen Esther. The story of Purim is a reminder that history can turn in unexpected ways. As we watch events unfolding in that same land today, we are reminded that moments like this rarely fit into simple narratives. Sometimes two things can be true at the same time.

It is reasonable to be troubled by the way the war in Iran began. The President bypassed constitutional norms in launching it, a move that many in Congress see as a slap in the face to the role of the legislative branch. Starting a war without congressional support and a credible plan for what comes next is extraordinarily risky.

At the same time, American and Israeli intelligence carried out a precise and miraculously timed operation that eliminated Ayatollah Khamenei and numerous senior IRGC leaders in a single strike. But this tactical success will mean little if the IRGC maintains power, potentially under leadership even more hostile to the West and driven by a renewed appetite for vengeance.
Whether this war ultimately proves justified will depend largely on what happens next.

But we should not forget that since the Iranian revolution in 1979, Iran's regime and its Revolutionary Guard have led chants of "Death to America," calling the United States the "Great Satan." The IRGC is a dangerous regime that is directly responsible for the deaths of more than a thousand Americans.

In the long run, this war could save lives and improve prospects for peace in the region – Iran's decision to retaliate by striking Arab Gulf states may also have the unintended consequence of pushing those countries closer into alignment with the United States, Israel, and the West.

History will ultimately judge the decisions made in these days.

District 10 Update: August 7, 2025

Please take a moment to submit your comments to the New York State Public Service Commission (PSC) and ask them to reject Con Edison's proposed electric and gas rate increases. Share how these hikes would affect you and your family. Submit your comments using the links below: Electric rate case – Case 25-E-0072 Gas rate case – Case 25-G-0073 The Westchester County Board of Legislators continues to hear from residents about the impact of Con Edison's repeated and aggressive rate hikes. Last week, the Board held a public session in Rye Brook to hear directly from the community, and next week we will announce our next hearing in Mount Kisco. While we are committed to raising these concerns locally, the final decision rests with the PSC. So far, just over 6,000 comments have been submitted on the electric case and about 4,500 on the gas case. Most appear to come from New York City. Westche...

District 10 Update: June 26, 2025

Click here to view this email in your browser  Last week, I joined a prayer vigil against hate in New Rochelle. Even in a city as diverse as New Rochelle moments like this remind us how much listening, respect, and mutual understanding still matter. We do not need to agree on everything, but we do need to care about how our words and actions affect those around us. Different communities carry different lived experiences. As an example, some turn to law enforcement any time they feel uneasy. Others hesitate because of long histories of profiling, discrimination, or being treated as outsiders. Language matters too. Words and slogans can carry pain, even if not intended. "The South will rise again" is recognized as a symbol of white supremacy and racial terror. Simila...

District 10 Update: August 28, 2025

Dear Friends and Neighbors,  This week, I had the privilege of celebrating seniors at the Senior Dance and Senior Social, women at the Women's United annual luncheon, youth at the Eco Ambassadors graduation, and diversity at the Muslim American Heritage Celebration at Kensico. While at the celebration at Kensico, two young men approached me about the Magen David Adom pin I wear on my lapel, which features both the American and Israeli flags, and which I've worn consistently since October 7. They challenged me about why I wore it at the event and ultimately about US government support for Israel with taxpayer dollars. It was, without question, an uncomfortable conversation. Thankfully, cooler heads prevailed. While we didn't agree on the history or politics of the Middle East, we ultimat...
