District 10 Update: January 31, 2025

Dear Friends and Neighbors,  This week, I had the pleasure of speaking with the members of "Learning in Retirement at Iona University" in New Rochelle. It was a great opportunity to share updates on my work and hear directly from our community about their concerns. Many questions centered around the uncertainty surrounding recent government actions and legal challenges, particularly those affecting immigrants, minorities, the LGBTQ community, government programs, nonprofits, and private schools. While it's still unclear how everything will unfold, my best advice is: don't panic,  prepare. Take time to understand any potential impacts, have conversations with family and friends, and ensure you know your rights. Most importantly, let's look out for one another. A strong, informed community is the best defense against uncertainty. I want to reassure you that working with my colleagues in government -- our new Con...

District 10 Update: January 24, 2025

Dear Friends and Neighbors,  One of the greatest privileges of representing District 10 is being part of a community where we share, celebrate, and participate in each other's diverse experiences. Last week, I had the honor of attending interfaith and secular events at Temple Israel of New Rochelle, Shiloh Baptist Church, the Reformed Church of Bronxville, St. Catherine's AME Church, and the JCC to commemorate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. These gatherings highlighted his enduring dream of unity and service, reminding us how much stronger we are when we come together across different traditions and perspectives. In the same spirit of collaboration and unity, I'm proud to share that my Digital Deception bill has advanced through committee and will go to the floor next month. The bill was a collaboration between my staff, the Law Department, and the District Attorney's Office, and it was signed onto by all 17 Legislat...

Dear Friends and Neighbors,  On Monday, January 20th, we honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a leader whose vision of justice, equality, and peace continues to inspire us. His commitment to civil rights and his dream of a world united by love and understanding remind us of the power of collective action and the importance of standing up for what is right. As we celebrate his legacy, let us recommit to building a more equitable and inclusive community here in Westchester County. Whether through acts of service, standing up for justice, or fostering dialogue and understanding, we all have a role to play in advancing Dr. King's dream. For more news and updates on upcoming events, please see my weekly update below. Sincerely, Judah Holstein Legislator, 10th District ...

District 10 Update: January 3, 2025

Dear Friends and Neighbors, On Thursday, January 2nd, Westchester County Board of Legislators Chair Vedat Gashi designated County Emergency Services Commissioner Richard G. Wishnie as Acting County Executive. This historic appointment follows Congressman-elect George Latimer's official resignation after serving as County Executive for seven years. Watch the ceremony replay here   |   Read the official letter here Wishnie's designation marks the first time in Westchester's history that the role of Acting County Executive has been activated. This temporary position is triggered when a sitting County Executive vacates office at least nine months before the term's conclusion. Wishnie will serve as Acting County Executive until January 6, 2025, when the Board of Legislators convenes a special meeting to appoint a County Executive. That appointee will hold the position until ...
